Château Fontenil 2015 - Rolland Collection

Château Fontenil 2015 Fronsac France

100% Merlot

2015 : The light was. Smothness, delicacy, pleasure!

A great year weather-wise, with a few scares for the “organic” wines, but on average a very good year, with a wonderful Indian summer for the right bank.

A great year for Merlot. The wines are a deep crimson colour with very pronounced aromas of ripe fruit, vanilla and blackcurrant jam.

A real treat, but still developing. Average in concentration and well-balanced with an elegant tannic structure.

A great wine that will be at its peak in 4 or 5 years, for the next 20 years.

Michel Rolland

Aromas of impeccably ripe cassis, blackberries and dark cherries. Very fruit-focused nose. The palate has a suave array of layered tannins that carry dark-cherry and blueberry flavors. Really pure wine. Try from 2020.

The 2015 Fontenil is gorgeous. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, crème de cassis, licorice and spice fill out the wine's plush, resonant frame effortlessly. Racy and yet also wonderfully nuanced, the 2015 is a superb Fontenil. Drink it over the next decade. Tasted two times.

Michel Rolland's property and one of his best yet. Spice and dark fruit notes and a sumptuous texture. Tannins are plentiful but really fine. Freshness and length on the finish. Harmonious.

Silky and supple, with sweet, ripe, soft, ripe, plums, truffle, licorice and smoke. On the palate, the wine is fresh, round and elegant. You find length, minerality and fruit in the finish. This is the best vintage of Fontenil ever produced.

Intense dark purple core. The nose is layered and modern with floral dark fruit, cassis, plum, some spicy aniseed and liquorice notes with finely toasted oak. The palate is ample and concentrated with young but ripe tannin, good extract and freshness, layers of red and dark berries with modest oak, dry spices and a long dense finish. Andreas Larsson

The 2015 Fontenil is deep garnet-purple in color with crushed red and black currants, black cherries and mulberries notions with an earthy undercurrent of underbrush and truffles plus a waft of tilled soil. The medium to full-bodied palate has bags of purity and minerality with a firm frame of chewy tannins and lively acid line lifting the youthful fruit to a long finish. This should age beautifully!
